Wolves slaughter Buffaloes
The Colorado Wolves got points from nine different players – four hitting for double digits – in a 77-44 blowout of Forsan Friday night at The Pit.
Derek Gainey was good for 17 points in the game, but even he had to sit back and admire the work of Tylor Lorenz. The senior forward hit three 3-pointers, four of six free throws and four field goals for a total of 21 points to push the Wolves to a 7-0 district record.
Gainey and Lorenz combined for 22 points in the second quarter alone, with Gainey hitting all three of his 3-pointers in the frame.
The first several minutes were quite entertaining as Gainey and Forsan’s Patrick Robles squared off at the point, but Robles did not have the same supporting cast Gainey did and the game got away from the Buffaloes quickly. The Wolves led 18-10 after one period and then 45-18 at the half. It went on like that for the rest of the game as well, even after Coach Barry Kimball started resting some starters.
Bailey Spencer had 11 points in the game and Benny Jones was good for 12. Jason Rodriquez got all of his six points in the first half, while Jake Johnson came in late, getting his four points in the fourth period. Aaron Rivera, Corbin Castillo and Gustavo Silva each recorded a second half bucket for the Wolves as well.
The boys will be back at The Pit Friday night when they host Slaton. The game is set to tip off at 8 p.m., immediately following the Lady Wolves game.
