SLATON – The Colorado Wolves got back to the courts following the holidays and played three games in the Slaton tournament this last week, eventually falling to Tulia in a close 50-49 decision in the consolation round.

The Wolves found themselves behind in the tournament when they dropped a close one to Pampa.

Down 15-8 after the first quarter, the Wolves fought back to get to within one point at the half by outscoring Pampa 19-13 in the game’s second frame.

When the two teams came out of the locker rooms, the one-point deficit did not look like too much for the Wolves to handle, but looks are so often misleading. Pampa’s defense got strong in the second half and held the Wolves to just 10 points in the game’s remaining two quarters and handing the Wolves their first loss of the tournament 42-37.

The Wolves have been averaging 47 points a game, a mark they fell short of against Pampa. However, the 37 points registered by Colorado City was good enough when they repeated it the next day against Meadow. The Wolves outscored Meadow 37-33 to claim a spot in the consolation bracket of the Slaton tournament.

And though the Wolves would exceed their season average by scoring 49 points in the match, it would prove to be a point shy of what they needed in this one, as Tulia put 50 on the scoreboard.

The Wolves will be back in action Friday, when they host Roosevelt in The Pit.
The varsity girls will play at 6:30 p.m. with the boys following at 8 p.m.
