Lady Wolves find new ways to win
The old adage which says when one door is closed a window is usually opened might have found its poster team in Colorado City’s Lady Wolves basketball team.
After the news of Katy Spencer’s season-ending injury last week got around the district, some might have been tempted to count the Lady Wolves out. That would have been a huge mistake.
The Lady Wolves responded like champions against the Forsan Lady Buffs Friday night at The Pit, as Megan Bullard and Mackenzie Kimball led the team with 13 points each in the one-sided affair, defeating Forsan 52-39.
C-City jumped out and grabbed a 12-8 lead after the first period when the Forsan defense had trouble containing the Lady Wolves in a full court press attempt, an attempt they would eventually walk away from and never try again.
After two quarters, the Lady Wolves had improved their lead, making it a 26-16 game at the buzzer. It was during this second frame when the Lady Buffs were introduced to another of the Lady Wolves who stepped up big. Alyssa Leverton drained a 3-pointer in the period on her way to a nine point game.
The third period saw Forsan getting desperate as the gap between the two teams’ scores widened.
They started fouling early. Aside from another nice Leverton long range shot, fans watched as Kimball was a perfect eight out of eight at the free throw line in the period. When the period was over, Colorado City was up 38-23.
Forsan managed to score 16 points in the game’s final frame, but it was nullified by Colorado’s 14.
The Lady Wolves improved to a 7-2 district record and are set to be at home Friday night when they face Slaton in a 6:30 p.m. district clash.
