Wolves clinch play off spot
The Wolves’ convincing 31-6 win against Alpine this last week clinched a playoff spot for Colorado City, but the team is not content to stop there. A win next week against Kermit would put them into the post season in the runners up position, allowing them to play a third place entry from another district. Traditionally, the second place team generally sees the less hazardous path through the playoffs.
This week, Head Coach Frank Johnson said the team was going to take it easy, before hitting it hard again for Kermit next week.
“We’ll work on fundamentals,” Coach Johnson said. “We will watch some film and then kick things back in gear next week.”
Though the Wolves have made the grade and already have their ticket to the dance, they still have work to do and things to accomplish. The most likely of circumstances would be for next week’s Colorado City/Kermit game to be a game for second and third place in the district, with first place already wrapped up by Wall.
However, there is still Alpine to consider, and they could still be a monkey in someone’s wrench. If the Bucks can manage to beat Kermit this Friday and then Denver City next week…and, Colorado City beats Kermit next week, friends and neighbors, we have a tie for third place.
However, none of this really means too much to Colorado City. To the Red and Black, the only thing which matters is to beat Kermit and take second place. Whoever comes in third really is not a focal point for the Wolves.
“Kermit is good enough to make me nervous,” Coach Johnson said. “But we have to have this last district game.”
