Colorado City rises to the top of Main Street Cities

Each year our Main Street program is required to submit a 10-point criteria report that is graded to determine whether or not our program is rated high enough to be eligible for National Main Street designation. We earned a 96 and were among the top cities in Texas to earn such a high score.

Our volunteers were phenomenal and made our program shine. Our merchants and building owners worked very hard to create buildings that made our before and after picture presentation a triumph. The reinvestment report figures were clear evidence of the financial improvement of our downtown.

Our downtown has become a destination for residents of other cities. Janie Conley and Cindy Grant from Big Spring are great examples of shoppers that come here for their shopping and creative inspiration. They were vendors for Junktique and have since been adopted by a group of merchants and residents. They spent part of Monday eating, shopping and touring our Opera House. These lovely ladies are just a few of the people from Midland, Dallas and areas in between who make it a point to stop in on a regular basis to shop at their favorite retail location.

Our sales tax figures have risen steadily in the years since Main Street has been in existence and our downtown is a thriving, busy location. Our dedicated board and volunteers are to be commended on a job well done. Thank you supportive residents for making this outstanding program possible.
