Living life to the fullest in Colorado City

Since we last talked several things have taken place in our community. In April we held the Ranch Rodeo with 22 teams for the events and over 80 kids for the Mutton Bustin. The dance was good and the winning cowboys went home happy with prize money and belt buckles. The stands were full and vehicles packed the fence line. A big THANK YOU to all our sponsors.

May brought bicycles to town again. We partner with Lake Colorado City State Park on the Bike Tour. They do not race against each other but pace themselves and test their endurance for future rides. These folks are avid riders and participate in rides throughout the year.

June was Car Show time. We only provide the building, the car club does all the work and do an outstanding job. They bring a lot of people into town and encourage them to shop locally by having drawings from the stores. Good Job.

Fireworks and airplanes ushered in July. The sky was lit up with the fireworks display, kids swam free and people played in the park. Most of the town could watch the fireworks from their homes. On the 4th the first plane arrived about 6:30 and it was a steady stream for the next two hours. We fed approximately 600 breakfasts including fly-ins and local citizens. The City National Bank cooks were great as usual. This was another successful J. O. Dockery July 4th Fly-in.

The Railhead Trade Days was the best July show ever. We overflowed and had a waiting list. The vendors were happy because the attendance was up and people were buying. The downtown merchants had a very busy weekend and good sales. We have reserved thirty spaces for the November show and are looking to open one more room and maybe two.

School will soon be starting and everyone will be back in their routine. We welcome the school personnel back with bags filled with goodies from the local businesses. We do bags for all three of the districts in the county; this year we will do 313. Any business wanting to participate can call the Chamber office.

The next Chamber sponsored event will be the Cowboy Breakfast on September 26th and Trick or Treat around town in October. November will enjoy two of the biggest events we have. The Hunter Appreciation Dinner on November 6th and Railhead Trade Days on November 21st and 22nd. Christmas activities are on December 5th and 6th.

The Chamber of Commerce continues to work for you. Once again, we welcome your input. Pease feel free to call us at any time.
