Over the last couple weeks, the Colorado City Record has run letters to the editor which either intentionally or unintentionally shed a dark light on the animal control issue here in C-City. I decided to find out what’s going on, so I contacted Donna Overton, the senior animal control officer, and asked if I could go for a ride with her or Misty Rich, the animal control officer in training.

Wolves play in Slaton

SLATON – The Colorado Wolves got back to the courts following the holidays and played three games in the Slaton tournament this last week, eventually falling to Tulia in a close 50-49 decision in the consolation round.

The Wolves found themselves behind in the tournament when they dropped a close one to Pampa.

Down 15-8 after the first quarter, the Wolves fought back to get to within one point at the half by outscoring Pampa 19-13 in the game’s second frame.

Livestock Show next week!

The Mitchell County Livestock Association will celebrate its 75th annual livestock show at the Mitchell County rodeo grounds January 12-14.

Approximately 100 area youngsters will be participating in Mitchell County Livestock Association’s 75th annual livestock show and auction Jan. 12-14 at the county ag barn, west of Colorado City. Kids from Westbrook FFA, Loraine FFA, Colorado FFA and Colorado City’s 4-H club will be participating in the yearly event.

Bone dry fields = low cotton yields

The record-setting drought which hit Mitchell County in 2011, along with the rest of the state, is still producing devastating fallout in the county. As predicted in November, the cotton crops are almost nonexistent in Mitchell County and its surrounding communities.
